Wise Words...

It says:
Smile at the person opposite you.
Lächle die Person gegenüber an.

Quite unsual for Sankt Petersburg Metro but hey... You gotta love the message.

Love at First Sight...

OMG! These look fantastic. Just a shame that Кофе Хауз did not sell those when I was there (and I was there every single day for the whole 4 weeks of my stay in Russia!). I feel tempted to try them myself... But maybe I'll wait until after Christmas because I've got all these cool Christmas and winter decoration stuff for cupcakes already... (Thanks Etsy)

On the Big Screen...

One of my favourite stories. Of one of the great writers... And two of my favourite actors in a movie by one of my favourite directors. What more can I say? I'm gonna see that one, for sure. Who wants to join me?

From Russia with Love...

Last night Ines and I went to the Vienna State Opera to see the Anna Karenina ballet. It was really beautiful and passionate (although personally I prefer the classic ballet style like Swan Lake...) and of course I love the music by Tchaikovsky. And it sure helps if you read the novel by Tolstoi to know what's going on. Oh, and it was a good reason to dress up anyway... I should have put on my blue blazer (which I was wearing with the dress) for the photo shooting but it was so warm in there...

Le Ballet...

Happy families are all alike;
every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.
~ Leo Tolstoy, Anna Karenina ~

I'm gonna see that on March 28, 2012 at the Wiener Staatsoper... Can't wait!

On the Big Screen...

(The Admiral)

Must see! Unfortunately I'm gonna miss the first movie night of the Wiener Euro-Asiatisches Forum / Венский Евро-Азиатский Форум" because we've already got tickets for the Musikverein next Friday. And they're gonna play Tchaikovsky. I'm really torn this time... And I'd so love to see this one in company. (I have this thing for Russian Marine uniforms... one of the reasons why I've always loved Sean Connery in "The Hunt for Red October" so much!) Aaaahhhhh.... *huge sigh*

Wise Words...

(1915)

Feeling of the Day...

Die Originalversion von Viktor Zojs Перемен: "Wandel! fordern unsere Herzen. Wandel! fordern unsere Augen.

Wandel! - fordern unsere Herzen.
Wandel! - fordern unsere Augen.
Wandel! - fordern unsere Herzen.
Wandel! - fordern unsere Augen.
Wandel! - fordern unsere Herzen.
Wandel! - fordern unsere Augen.
In unserem Lachen und in unseren Tränen,
und im Puls unserer Adern: “Wandel!”

Home Sweet Home!

I'm back home in Vienna, obviously. Just a first impression from my amazing 4 weeks in Russia (Saint Petersburg and Moscow). More to come soon! I still have to sort out my millions of photos... I'm happy to be home again but I also miss Piter and all the friends I made there (both from Russia and Austria) ^_^

On the Big Screen...

Been at the cinema yesterday, here in St. Petersburg (the Avrora movie theatre on the Nevsky Prospect) and saw a Russian classic. In Russian of course. It was amazing. And I got most of it...haha. It's been ages ever since I read that book but it definitely helped understanding the story. I'm so proud of my language skills right now. ^_^ And the cinema itself was really cool. A great hall - like for ball room dancing - with single armchairs to sit in and a bar in the back. Very fancy! But at a regular price. Loved it!

Little Adults

There was an article in today's Schaufenster about the children of rich Russians. German-Russian photographer Anna Skladmann put together an illustrated book about them. She also told about those shootings. Those little people, how they arrangewd and staged themselves... or how their parents did. I think those photographs are beautiful and terrible at the same time. None of these children actually looks happy. I'm a spoiled kid myself but looking at those sad and unhappy faces, I am once again lucky for what I had and still have. Money alone can't buy you happiness. I think the most valuable thing in my life is my sister - a no money in the world could replaced that. >> read full article...

 [ via we ♥ it ]

So bury me, wind, bury me

So bury me, wind, bury me

Alas, my loved ones did not come.
Stray evening roams on paths still free,
And calm earth's breath begins to hum.

Like you, I once was free and charmed;
But I so madly wished to live.
Do you see, wind, my cold corpse stiff,
With no one here to cross my arms?

Now close and cloak this wound so black,
With evening's dark and baleful shroud;
And bid blue mist to read aloud
Those psalms which fend off night's attack.

So that, alone, I might pass on
To that last dream which night may bring;
So rustle now the high sedge song
About the spring, about my spring.

-A. Akhmatova, 1909

From Russia with Love...

Austrian-Russian Summer School /

I almost forgot... I'm going to Russia in summer. To Sankt Petersburg to be exact. Exactly where I wanted to go. I applied for summer school some weeks ago and on May 12 received confirmation. I'm so excited. Lucky me! There were only 20 students chosen from all of Austria... Ever since my first visit to this amazing city back in 2001 I wanted to go again. And finally... I made it! I'll be in Piter from August 2-23 - and then off to Sweden, to pay a visit to my dearest friend Julia in Stockholm.

From Russia With Love...

The Siege of Leningrad

We'll do a project about this at university, including a small exhibition in a museum. I've read quite a lot about that tragic event but I think here not many people know much about. Not even the Russian students... We haven't worked out the details yet and I still have to find some kind of "sub-topic" to work on... But I'm very much looking forward to it.

 [ via we ♥ it ]

Все звуки, отзвучия все;

OMG! Russian doll ring. Isn't that cute?! And beautiful?! Babushka ring inspired by the Matryoshka doll. And yes it actually opens up and there is a smaller doll inside.
