Cut Loose

I need some time for myself.
I need to be with myself.
I need to be lonely for a while.

Lonely is a freedom that breathes easy and weightless.
And lonely is healing if you make it.

I need enough distance so that when I come back,
I won't remember a thing.

En Vogue...

Summer Must-Have! I need a new bikini anyway... Oh, and how I love those polka dots! And it's blue. It's just perfect. (Really, Esprit has to stop sending me all those newsletters with all the beautiful fashion newbies...)

PRIMA BALLERINA

Beneath fading lights,
the scarlet curtain rises.
The audience gasp in unison.

Her agile grace, her delicate beauty
captivates our senses
as she gradually becomes one

with the haunting melody,
and now we, too, can actually feel it
pervading the intimate depths of being.

Enthralled, we are inexorably drawn
into her ethereal world

where, for these few short hours

we are in paradise.

Sound Garden...

As usual, when it comes to unearthly beautiful and  rare pieces of music, I can always count on my Swiss friend Dushy. I don't know how or where she always finds it but she has an amazing taste in music (among other things as well...). Her last entry about the Fairy Tail Soundtrack (by Yasuharu Takanashi) is no exception... Just like her, I am a girl and a hopeless romantic so those piano sounds and chorals make my heart melt...

Faeries, come take me out of this dull world,
For I would ride with you upon the wind,
Run on the top of the dishevelled tide,
And dance upon the mountains like a flame.

En Vogue...

I love braids. I always had one when I was a child. My mom would do that every morning. I still can't do it myself. Plus, my curls make it even more complicated. But every once in a while I ask my mom for that... One of the girls at the wedding last night had a really beautiful hairstyle, with a braid on one side and and a lose dut at the end, decorated with flowers. It looked brilliant. I've got another wedding in about a month and something like will definitely be my hairstyle for that event! I found this lovely picture of Jessica Alba showing that kind of hairdo...

Le Inspiration...

Today is the church wedding. Some of us will read an intercession. Yvonne distributed each of us with a certain topic, some weeks ago already. I got health. Ironic, isn't it? Anyway, here's mine:

Bewahre sie vor Krankheit und Schaden in diesem zeitlichen Leben und schenke ihnen stets die Hoffnung und die Zuversicht, dass alles zu einem guten Ende kommt.
(i.e. Preserve them from illness and  harm in this mortal life and always provide them with hope and  confidence that everything will come to a good end.)

En Vogue...

I just saw this absolutely amazing beautiful fancy vintage Dior... WANNA HAVE! The right piece of clothing for a princess like me... hehe. I'm so into all shades of white and cream these days...and it's not just because of all the weddings around me. I'm off to imagine myself swirling around in that dress....

Yvonne & Tom's Wedding Day 1

Day 1: Civil Registrar's Office

Here are some pictures from today. There'll be more from the professional photographer but of course I could not resist taking a few shots myself... Aren't we looking fabulous?! And thank God, it only started pouring down after we were done...

Just some details: Bjoern is Tom's best man, while Yvonne chose both Birgit and me as witnesses.

Today was the "official" part at the civil registrar's office in Korneuburg (Niederoesterreich). It took place at the city hall which is a beuatiful gothic building. I loved the staircase inside. On the other hand, we weren't the only marriage today so I almost didn't get a parking lot. Luckily I was in time (at least for once in my life... Yvonne would have killed me if I'd been late!) and it only took me 4 rounds across town to find a place to park.

It was quite cloudy and windy today (that's why my hair looks so funny on the pictures!) but really humid. Not quite the best conditions if you wear a silk dress. Anyway at least it wasn't raining, at least not before and during the ceremony - which was beautiful. All of a sudden everyone started crying while the happy couple and us (witnesses) put our signature on the document to make it official. Followed by the obligatory kiss...

The we all headed of to make photos and then for lunch and coffee to their house with the big garden. I also put up some pictures of the tent (which turned out to be useful while it was only drizzling) and the beautifully decorated table. (Pink, of course. Yes, we are soulmates in some ways...)

Let's hope for good weather for tomorrow!

Life can be strange sometimes... Last week I buried one of my best friends. Tomorrow another one will get married. I'm in tears, torn between grief and happiness....

On the Bookshelf...

I suddenly realized that in those times of my life when I can hardly bear the stress anymore that goes with my daily routines, extra duties and emotional tensile tests, I start reading books like my life depends on them. I've been a bookworm ever since I could read. The fascination of the written word, the "cinema in your head", the way a story gives wings to your imagination... I could not and don't want to imagine a world - or my life in particular - without books. But as it turned out, the usual lack of (free) time which prevents me from swallowing all those fantastic tales and stories, seems to vanish when I'm emotionally and physically drained like right now... It's not that I actually have more time, it just happens to force itself into my life and into my mind... There's nothing like a good book that captivates you in such a way you just have to stay up until 4AM because you don't want to put it aside... even if your eyes are burning and your body is aching for sleep! Here's one such story...

The Solitude of Prime Numbers
(La Solitudine dei Numeri Primi)

It's amazing how Paolo Giordano makes you feel that deep connection between his characters due to their personal tragedies and their own shortcomings. The plain, sometimes almost cold and austere style, the simple words and terms, only hints of what has happend and might be happening, makes it alle the more "real" and tangible. It makes you feel their pain, physically and emotionally. It makes you wince because of the wrong decisions and their egoism. Their not understanding, or their inability to understand themselves and each other. It's a sad but beautiful story. No kitschy happy endings, no forced deceleration. It's about life, just like it is...

WOW! I love this  album. It makes you smile, makes you feel light and happy. Makes you wanna sway around and dance... Caro Emerald is a Dutch Jazz singer - and you feel that spirit throughout every song. Became one of my personal favourites within an instant...

OMG! Russian doll ring. Isn't that cute?! And beautiful?! Babushka ring inspired by the Matryoshka doll. And yes it actually opens up and there is a smaller doll inside.

On the Big Screen...

Sorry!

In Memoriam...

Lilith & me, November 2010

... of Lilith, one of my oldest and best friends.
(1983 - 2011)

She passed away last night, after long disease. I don't know how to feel or how to put it into words. She's gone. I still feel helpless because there was nothing I could have done, apart from watch her suffer and fall apart. At least she does not have to suffer anymore.

May she rest in peace!

Poll

Chocolate Cupcakes with Cointreau Chocolate Frosting

OMG! Those cupcakes were absolutely fantastic. I usually just make them and leave them to eat for my family and friends. But those were... amazing. Death by chocolate, that would be an appropriate name. Absolutely gorgeous. I only tried them because they looked nice and I love the decorating stuff...

If you want to try for yourself, here's the original recipe by Ming! It's cupcake #33. I used Cointreau instead of Chambord liqueur because I couldn't get that one anywere...

Bon appetite!
