On the Big Screen...

TRUST - Official Trailer

Okay, I know I shouldn't be spending so much time on YouTube... but I just found the trailer of this upcoming movie with Clive Owen (whom I really adore)....

Directed by: David Schwimmer
Cast: Clive Owen, Catherine Keener, Liana Liberato

David Schwimmer departs from his comedic roots in this harrowing drama that examines the build-up and aftermath of a teenager’s (Liana Liberato) seduction by an online sexual predator. Clive Owen and Catherine Keener are perfectly cast as the grieving parents, but relative newcomer Liberato’s slow-burning self-realization and climactic breakdown is undeniably heartrending.

Frida Kahlo in Vienna!

I'm so excited! Starting tomorrow, there'll be an exhibition in Vienna, dedicated to one of my all-time favourite artists ever! The Bank Austria Kunstforum will be presenting the first ever comprehensive Frida Kahlo Retrospective in Austria. The myth surrounding the Mexican artist has taken on global format; Frida is an icon with star character: an identification figure of Mexican culture, forerunner of the feminist movement, a brand promoted in a mega-merchandising machine, glitteringly exotic film subject for the Hollywood cinema.

>> Read more about the exhibition...

By the way... If you haven't seen the movie (with Salma Hayek as Frida Kahlo) yet, go and watch it! It's a really beautiful film about a fascinating woman!

Death & Chocolate....

I just finished watching Season 6 finale of "Grey's Anatomy" together with my sister. She actually was on her way out already to see her boyfriend when the first episode started. She never made it to the door ;-) We both sat there, banned. Not being able to move. (Okay, being a little overly dramatic here...) Hoping that none of our favourites would die... I had to wait for the commercial break before the second episode to go to the toilet... I'm just surprised that my sister was just as averted as I was - in fact I'm the TV show junkie in the family. Now I'm wondering if they just wanted to get rid of some of the newer characters... Maybe they were just sitting there, discussing how to write them out and someone said: "Let's kill them all!"...... ???

To calm down our nerves we opened a still sealed box of Merci pralines. I especially love the ones with hazel nuts. When I opened one of them it looked kinda strange... Expire date said: 01/2011. Then we discovered some kind of mini maggot in some of the other pralines... End of fun! I never had that before. It was kinda interesting... and disgusting. Will go complain in the food store tomorrow.

Les Artistes...

And here's the team of face painting artists:
Dan, me, Melanie, Julia and Brigitte (from left to right)

I have to confess I already missed being on the Nivea Familienfest Tour this year. And it's for a good cause anyway: all money will be donated to SOS Kinderdorf. We may even reach 300.000 Euros this year...

Monster's Ball

There have been quite a few monsters and dragons this weekend... and a butterfly with skulls. Some really cool (face) paintings...

On the Big Screen...

WOW! Just came back from watching Inception. If you haven't seen it yet, go now! As soon as possible. Absolutely brilliant...

I expected something good from Christopher Nolan because I love pretty much all his works... but this one just exceeded my expectations. By far! I loved the story, the effects, the atmosphere, the music (by Hans Zimmer - just fantastic as usual) and there were some of my favourite actors in it, too. The likes of Leo DiCaprio (who's getting better and better), Ellen Page, Ken Watanabe, Marion Cotillard and Cillian Murphy!

Sound Garden

"Eclipse (All Yours)" by Metric (music video)

I've never heard about that band before but I found this absolutely beautiful song the "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" soundtrack and immediately fell in love with it. The whole album is worth listening to, I can really recommend it. Altogether it's darker and more melancholy than the previous ones. More ballads, less fast and heavy songs...

First Pilates training course today after a 1 month break. Wow, I feel like I've been running a marathon.... My legs are heavy as plumb and I won't even mention my (non existing) abs for fear that this could already hurt... I'm completely sore. But... I also feel healthy, happy and inspired. Must be endorphines pumping through my veins... I shall definitely start working out more frequently again. And go by bike more often. And eat more healthy. Loose some weight. And... ah well, goodnight for now.

La Cuisine...

Tartelette with forest fruits

2 days of rain and too much free time. This is the result. Plus I haven't made any cake for a while already... I just wanted to try out those little baking pans I've bought. Flan case is made of shortcrust, filled with vanilla pudding and topped with forest fruits (frozen - unfortunately I did not have fresh ones at home) and covered with jelly (to make it look nice and also to keep the fruits from getting sloppy).

Rating: Delicious! Just perfect for a summer day!

... or so many sore muscles. After "working" in the garden yesterday for about 3 hours to free it from the weeds - which have obviously got the upper hand down there - I feel completely sore. Last time I felt like this was 2 years ago when I went for a whole week of power Snowboarding without any kind of workout within the precedent 4 months...

Maybe battling against those pest plants in the very uncomfortable "Schranz Hocke" position (named after the famous Austrian skier Karl Schranz >> take a look here) wasn't such a brilliant idea...

The Addition of Dostoevsky on Moscow Subway Leads to Concerns of Suicide

Addition of Dostoevsky on Moscow Subway Leads to Concerns of Suicide
via Juxtapoz Magazine

Moscow has been covering headlines with its current wildfire concerns and related smoke crisis, but we heard a different story about Moscow this morning. Moscow’s Subway system has a new set of murals, that psychologists fear might encourage suicidal impulses.

Listening to NPR this morning, we were introduced to Moscow subways covered in mosaics, paintings, murals, and statues. Sounds nice, doesn’t it? Everyone seems to benefit from public art, but what if it’s depressing artwork, even disturbing?

“The Dostoevskaya station — which opened this summer in memory of Russian writer Fyodor Dostoevsky — met a fair share of opposition when psychologists expressed concern that dark murals of the violent scenes from Dostoevsky's books could put riders in gloomy moods — or, worse, even encourage suicidal impulses,” NPR told us.

Happy nameday!

 [ via we ♥ it ]

It's my nameday today. August 8 in France (though I am not French). It's a litte over midnight right now and I will enlighten you with that knowledge before I go to bed...

So, what's in a name then?

Dominique {pronounced do-mee-NEEK} French name that derives from Latin (Domenica). It means "of God" or "belonging to God" and also "God's disciple". Gender can be feminine and masculine. Form of Dominic (Latin; meaning "of the Lord". This name was traditionally given to a child born on Sunday. Several saints have borne this name, including the 13th-century founder of the Dominican order of friars.)

Characteristics
Although the name Dominique causes an active mind and a restless urge to explore new ideas, we emphasize that it causes a materialistic approach that frustrates higher humanitarian qualities. This name, when combined with the last name, can frustrate happiness, contentment, and success, as well as cause health weaknesses in the solar plexus and reproductive organs.

The name of Dominique brings opportunities for success in business and financial accumulation. It fires you with ambition and promotional ideas, ideas that are original, progressive, and large-scale. With this name, success to you is a foregone conclusion, for you cannot conceive any reason for not reaching all your goals, as you have self-sufficiency, supreme confidence, boundless energy, and enthusiasm. As long as you have a sense of freedom from monotony and drudgery, and can see progress being made, you feel buoyant and optimistic.

How sexy is your name?
D - Once you get it into your head that you want someone, you move full steam ahead in pursuit. You do not give up your quest easily. You are nurturing and caring. If someone has a problem, this turns you on. You are highly sexual, passionate, loyal, and intense in your involvement, sometimes possessive and jealous. Sex to you is a pleasure to be enjoyed. You are stimulated by the eccentric and unusual, having a free and open mind.

Fffleur de Lys: Innehalten

Some very nice and beautiful garden images of a dear friend...

Journal de jardin...

So, after my sister has successfully killed my former basil plant I had to get a new one... I just love this spice and fresh one tastes so much better. I've been so proud of the plant, it has grown nicely. During my vacation absence of 2 weeks in July my sister first managed to wither the plant since she put it into an aluminium pot and then placed it on our dining room window where it got grilled from top to bottom and probably the other way round as well. After neglecting it for almost a week she not only watered but drowned it with the effect of mold growing within the pot. My poor little plant just couldn't take it anymore... and finally gave in! Rest in peace!

I bought a new one 2 days ago. It now has a nice place at one of the shady windows and a ceramic pot and I myself will supervise the watering.
